North Wales Appeal on Crimewatch

North Wales Police has issued an appeal on Crimewatch for the public's help to identify a murder victim.

On 14th November 2015, a member of the public camping in the Denbigh moors was searching for some firewood in a forest near Pentrellyncymer when he came across a human skull in undergrowth and contacted the police.

Following extensive investigation work, the police established the man died from blunt force trauma to the head and a murder investigation was launched.

The police have some clues from the scene - a label from a pair of badly decomposed Marks & Spencer underpants sized L, and pieces of a badly decomposed jumper, which was later revealed to be an XL sized Pringle jumper. Police are unable to confirm if these were worn by the victim at the time.

The victim also had some specific medical conditions. Police are appealing for medical professionals and pharmacists to come forward if they had a patient with DISH (Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis) and arthritis, who spontaneously stopped attending appointments or collecting pain relief medication.

The police believe the person was killed elsewhere and left at this site. They estimate this would have been sometime between 1995 and 2005, based on the growth of the trees in the area and the decomposition of the body. From the remains they have also obtained a full DNA profile, which did not match anyone on the database. Anyone who thinks they may recognise this man can call in confidence, and with this profile the police will be able to eliminate suggested identities.

The police have also worked with forensic artists to reconstruct what the victim may have looked like to help people identify him. The identity of the victim is the key to opening up the murder investigation and to ultimately finding out how the person died, and who killed him.
